Darkly Beautiful Close-up Photographs of Blocks of Ice

These beautiful photos by Australian photographer Heidi Romano are abstract enough that you can stare at them for a couple of moments before you realize what it is you’re staring at: ice. The images, which we spotted at the ever-excellent Feature Shoot, are close-ups of sheets of ice from Romano’s freezer, which only goes to show that you can create art from the most mundane sources. By placing them in front of her lens, the artist interprets the frozen water into dramatic forms, full of stark, murky beauty. The images are all named for famous icebergs, too, which gives them decidedly ominous undertones. Check out more of Romano’s work at her website.
