I discovered Martina Shapiro when I was taking an advanced art class in high school. I fell in love with her use of color. The vibrant tones are striking, yet not distracting from the beauty of the subject itself. As you may have noticed I prefer her nudes; she portrays them in a way which makes them appear both sensual and confident. I like how she emphasizes the contours of the body. I find the distortion of the proportion also quite appealing, because in contemporary painting there is no need to make figures look realistic. In fact there is no need to make anything look realistic; that’s what photography is for.
